Job Description / Duties

The Performing Arts Department at Rockford University invites applications for Instructor of Voice (part-time/adjunct) starting in August 2014. Studio will consist of music students, musical theater students, and non-majors. An appreciation for musical theater and experience teaching that repertoire is necessary, although teaching a classical foundation of voice is expected.

Teaching duties include maintaining an active undergraduate studio through weekly private lessons and regular studio classes, in addition to collaborating with the department with regard to juries, departmental auditions, and student recitals.

Additional teaching opportunities may include, but are not limited to, Women’s Ensemble, music history, music in film, art song literature, and opera workshop, depending on the departmental needs and candidate's qualifications and interests. An additional administrative opportunity may include Music Program Coordinator.

The successful candidate must have an educational philosophy compatible with that of a private institution in a liberal arts environment. The semester-to-semester contract is renewable. Salary will be per credit hour and commensurate with candidate's qualifications and experience.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Minimum Qualifications:
1. Masters degree in voice performance or equivalent professional experience;
2. Successful college-level (including as TA) or equivalent teaching experience in voice performance;
3. Experience teaching musical theater styles and repertoire, with a solid classical foundation;
4. Extensive and varied artist-level performance experience, musical theater experience is welcomed.
