Job Description / Duties

The Theatre Arts Program in the Faculty of Fine Arts and Communications (FFAC) at MacEwan University invites applications for a full-time probationary appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor, commencing July 1, 2015, subject to final budgetary approval. The new hire will teach in a well-established musical theatre based program. Plans are currently underway to develop a bachelor’s degree in theatre.

The successful candidate will oversee the vocal production program in Theatre Arts. They are expected to teach and accompany private voice lessons for music theatre (contemporary commercial music, legit and belt styles) and have a broad knowledge of musical theatre styles and repertoire. They are also responsible for the coordination of vocal faculty, scheduling, as well as the development and management of the vocal curriculum. A strong background in vocal technique as it applies to music theatre is a necessity.

Responsibilities may include classroom instruction in music theatre history, music direction of main-stage and workshop productions as well as coaching of small and large ensembles. The successful applicant must have a strong interest in teaching as a career priority and an ability to work in a collegial environment.

There is also an expectation of scholarly and/or creative work, committee service, and other administrative responsibilities.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Candidates will hold a minimum of a master’s degree credential (an MA or MFA in theatre or a related discipline) and will demonstrate a primary commitment to undergraduate teaching and an ongoing research program. Significant teaching experience in a post-secondary environment is highly desirable as is professional performing experience.
