david205Composer David Sisco is the winner of the 2010 NATS Art Song Composition Award.  Sisco, who resides in New York City, has established a strong catalogue of art song and musical theatre works.  His winning composition, Missed Connections is for mezzo soprano and piano.  Final judge Tom Cipullo had this to say about the winning composition:  "This is a work of tremendous variety, filled with whimsy and also very touching.  Extremely well-written for the voice and filled with challenging piano writing, Missed Connections is the work of an immensely talented and engaging composer."

Sisco was present in Salt Lake City for the premiere performance of this exciting work chosen from over 75 entries. "I am honored to be chosen as this year's recipient of the NATS Composition Award. Being both a singer and a teacher, I have a deep respect for the work NATS does and a full appreciation for what this award means. Thank you for the encouragement you extend to so many composers to write for voice through this wonderful competition," says Sisco. More information about Sisco and his compositions can be found at www.davidsisco.com

The recipient of the second place award is Christina Whitten Thomas for her work entitled In the Garret. Two Honorable Mentions were also awarded to Timothy Stephens for Letters to the World, and Cherise Leiter for Love Letters from a War.
