| NATS Intern Program deadline is Dec. 15 |
|
Deadline for applications is Dec. 15, 2012. This year’s selected interns will work with master teachers Kenneth Bozeman, Karen Brunssen, Allen Henderson and Edrie Means Weekly at Vanderbilt University from June 12-20, 2013. Donald Simonson is director of this year’s NATS Intern Program, while Jonathan Retzlaff is the on-site coordinator. Within a format designed to promote the dynamic exchange of ideas and techniques, the goal is to improve substantially the studio teaching skills of the promising young teachers who participate. In 2012, more than 40 applications were received for 12 spots. Last year’s class included teachers who primarily teach in university settings as well as those whose focus is the independent studio. “The NATS Intern Program was the ideal learning environment in which to grow,” said 2011 participant Jared Schwartz. “A flood of valuable information from lectures, recitals, and observing my peers and master teachers instructing other singers was the most productive class in teaching pedagogy I've ever been a part of. This was a tremendous opportunity that bonded me forever with my peers and master teachers and gave me much more than information--it gave me affirmation to teach with confidence and value what I do - teaching is art!” |

"It's an exciting time to be a NATS member. While other professional associations are cutting back on member services for voice teachers, NATS keeps adding benefits and partnerships for members and students. I'm excited about the new music theater competition, the Orlando conference, and the partnership with Carnegie Hall - The Achievement Program - to mention a few. To borrow Joan Boytim'a phrase, I'm more 'nuts about NATS' than ever!" -Cynthia Vaughn, proud NATS member since 1984
