NATS Intern Program

DESCRIPTION: The NATS Intern Program is an exciting and innovative venture that seeks to pair experienced and recognized master teachers of voice with talented young members of NATS. Within a format designed to promote the dynamic exchange of ideas and techniques, the goal is to improve substantially the studio teaching skills of these promising young teachers. Each intern will teach four lessons to two students (one male and one female) and perform in a master class under the supervision of a master teacher. In addition, the master teachers, Cynthia Vaughn (vocal literature liaison), and special guests will present lectures and demonstrations.

Interns chosen will be responsible for their own expenses, although financial assistance will be available through the NATS Foundation for housing and meals. Interns may also request financial assistance from their NATS chapters or regions as well as from their institutions of employment for travel. The interns' tuition expenses for this program are completely covered by NATS, Inc., and the NATS Foundation.

All NATS members with five years experience or less of teaching singing are urged to apply for NATS intern programs.

Hosting a Summer Intern Program
If your school or facility would be interested in coordinating/hosting a future NATS Summer Intern Program, please contact the Intern Program Coordinator for details and facility requirements.

STUDENT NATS CHAPTERS (SNATS)

DESCRIPTION: The National Association of Teachers of Singing has fostered the formation of student chapters in order to advance knowledge about the Association and the professions of teaching and singing. A Student NATS (SNATS) Chapter is an organization of students who can meet, hold events and discussions, participate, practice, and learn more about voice teaching as a profession.

In order to form a SNATS Chapter, a Full or Associate NATS member in good standing may petition the SNATS Coordinator on behalf of a group of students to grant a SNATS Chapter charter. The Vice-President for Discretionary Funds & Field Activities will serve as the SNATS Coordinator. SNATS Chapter members may be invited to local NATS meetings, and are always welcome to attend NATS workshops, conferences, and other events at a special student registration rate. Order the Journal of Singing today through your SNATS advisor for a discounted student rate!

"A tremendous gap exists between the student years and the professional teaching years. SNATS Chapters mentor young singers into the profession at a grass roots level, and provide opportunities for supplementary information and education within NATS."

--Dr. Kathryn Proctor Duax
Former Vice-President for Discretionary Funds & Field Activities of NATS and SNATS Coordinator
