Research Surveys

NATS supports many types of voice research.  Researchers seek to survey the profession in a variety of ways.  NATS is pleased to offer members, students of members, and selected partners the opportunity to list links to various surveys being conducted by researchers.  Please do not contact the NATS office regarding information on these surveys.  Instead, contact the principal investigator provided with each listing.

Want to list your research survey here?  Download the Guidelines for Research Surveys (coming soon) and submit the application for approval.  Once approved, the survey will be listed.  NOTE:  Until the online submission form is active send all requests in the format of the listings below to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Please forward this link to any interested singer/singing teacher.  Thanks for your participation.

AESTHETIC PERCEPTIONS OF VIBRATO IN YOUNG CHOIRS

Vibrato in the choral area is perhaps the most controversial topic of discussion in choral and voice pedagogy. I am interested in deciphering if there is a discernible difference in the aesthetic perception of vibrancy among choral conductors and voice teachers.

I am performing research as part of the Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program in conjunction with the Mary Morgan Moore Department of Music at Lamar University. Please consider participating in this study and forwarding the link to any parties you feel may be interested!  The survey is very brief, has ten questions and only takes 4-5 minutes of your time. I hope to share the results with members of the National Association of Teachers of Singing and the American Choral Directors Association. Thank you!

MENTAL STRATEGIES NECESSARY FOR PERFORMING AT PEAK LEVELS

Contact:    Diana Allan, University of Texas at San Antonio,    This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

We are interested in learning more about what musicians consider to be the top mental challenges performers face.  We have developed a 10-item survey to identify the top mental challenges, what mental strategies are most desired/needed, how familiar musicians are with mental skills training, and in what format most musicians would like to learn more about the mental skills needed for improved performance.

Please consider participating!  We hope to share survey results in the form of articles and online audio, visual and print educational tools for use by both teachers and students of singing.
