Job Description / Duties


Serve as the director of choral activities, conducting The Bemidji Choir, Chamber Singers, and Varsity Singers.
Supervise student implementation of Men’s and Women’s choir development.
Plan and implement any tours and/or major choral concert events.
Teach undergraduate courses in areas of choral studies such as conducting, choral studies, choral literature, choral arranging and notation. Courses are offered on a rotating basis with usually one per semester.
Collaborate with colleagues on performances across the department of music.
Contribute to a program of scholarship within the discipline, student advising, service to the University and community, and other associated faculty duties.
Contribute to interdisciplinary teaching and involvement in activities that support Bemidji State University's signature themes: Environmental stewardship, Civic engagement, Global/Multicultural Understanding.
The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to a collegial and supportive environment that advances the goals of the department, including curriculum development, assessment, and other departmental governance activities.
Assist with programmatic accreditation.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Minimum Qualifications:

Terminal degree or ABD in choral conducting from a nationally accredited institution at the start of employment.
Demonstrated commitment to quality teaching is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Completed doctorate in choral conducting from a nationally accredited institution at the start of employment.
Record of success in choral program development and implementation.
Desire for national/international recognition in choral excellence.
Strong ability to work in a collaborative environment.
The applicant should demonstrate a knowledge of and interest in diverse cultures and populations.
