Job Description / Duties

Description and Duties: The Music Department of the Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University, seeks an experienced Artist/Teacher of Voice. A tenor is preferred but all voice types will be considered. The successful candidate’s responsibilities include teaching studio voice to undergraduate performance and music education majors as well as master's and doctoral students in performance degrees. Diction and/or pedagogy classes may also be part of the candidate's load; other classes will be dependent on the candidate's strengths and interests. The candidate will be expected to be an active recruiter for the voice department. Participation on evaluation committees for comprehensive written and oral examinations, as well as committees for auditions, juries, recitals, and opera role performances, is required. Fluency in Italian, French or German is desirable.

Rank: Assistant Professor-tenure or professional track, depending on qualifications, full-time (10 months contract)

Qualifications / Required Skills

Qualifications Required: doctoral degree in voice or comparable professional experience.

Preferred: University teaching experience with undergraduate students in addition to graduate and/or professional level singers.

The Music Department places a high value on collegial relationship, and as such, a strong interpersonal skill set is highly anticipated.

Additional Information

Starting Date: September 1st, 2018.

Deadline: The committee will begin reviewing applications on October 1, 2017 and will close the search on December 1st.

The application should include a cover letter, a current curriculum vitae, names and contact information for three references, and links to 3 video recordings of performances given in the last 3 years showing a variety of repertoire, language, and musical genre (opera, oratorio and art song).

Selected candidates will be asked, at a later time, to submit two links of 20-minute videos teaching both male and female singers, preferably one of whom is an undergraduate student.

Salary: Salary: Commensurate with educational background and experience, including a full benefit package.
