Job Description / Duties

The School of Music at Montana State University seeks qualified individuals to provide non-tenurable, in-person instruction in applied voice and pedagogy. Preference will be given to applicants with experience teaching music appreciation (Enjoyment of Music and American Popular Music), aural perception, and/or theory/composition courses. The appointment is a 1-year sabbatical replacement (fall and spring semesters AY2026/27), non-tenure track. The position is 0.8-1.0 FTE and is Benefits Eligible.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Teach an applied voice studio, consisting of both music and non-music majors.
- Teach in a secondary area(s) of need – music appreciation (Enjoyment of Music and American Popular Music), aural perception, and/or theory/composition courses.
- Collaborative performance with faculty.
- Other responsibilities that vary with the needs of the school.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
- Master’s degree in vocal performance or pedagogy.
- Significant vocal performance experience and/or graduate voice study.
- Successful studio teaching experience.
- Experience or potential as a college-level music instructor.

Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
- Voice Type: soprano/mezzo-soprano.
- Doctorate or ABD in vocal performance or pedagogy.
- Successful teaching experience in voice at the college level.
- Successful teaching in a secondary area(s) at the college level.

- Work effectively with students from different backgrounds and levels of experience.
