Job Description / Duties

The Truman State University School of Arts and Humanities and Department of Music invites applications for the position of Lecturer in Music, Voice to begin August 2026. This is a 9-month, part-time faculty appointment located on Truman’s campus in Kirksville, Missouri. Duties are to be completed on campus and in-person. The weekly schedule is flexible but should ideally include Thursdays, as the weekly Voice Studio Class meets that day.

Responsibilities: The successful candidate will teach applied lessons in undergraduate voice, participate in weekly voice studio class, participate in vocal juries, participate in preliminary hearings for recitals, and oversee the preparation of student recitals. Responsibilities may also include involvement in a spring opera production (team-teaching; possible directing), depending on qualifications and experience. The successful candidate is expected to participate collegially within the learning community.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Required Qualifications:
• Master’s degree in vocal performance or similar field
• Experience teaching applied voice
• Strong oral communication, written communication, and interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications:
• ABD or Doctorate in vocal performance or related field
• Successful record of performances as a solo vocalist
• Demonstrated excellence in teaching applied voice at the university level
• Experience in or demonstrated potential to lead components of opera productions
• Successful experience in collaboration with colleagues

• Statement of teaching philosophy as it relates to applied voice
• Document that links to video recordings of 1) recent performances as a solo vocalist (15-30 minutes) and 2) examples of teaching applied voice (~30 minutes with contrasting voice types represented). These should be viewable in a standard web browser
• Copies of undergraduate and graduate transcripts (unofficial transcripts are acceptable)
• Contact information for at least three references

The Department of Music: The Department of Music offers degrees of Bachelor of Music in Composition, Bachelor of Music in Performance, Bachelor of Arts in Music, Bachelor of Science in Music Therapy, Bachelor of Science in Music Business, Master of Arts in Music (Conducting, Composition, Performance and Research emphases), and minors in Music, Jazz Studies, Musicology, and Musical Theatre.
