Job Description / Duties

The Vocal Performance Program has approximately 200 full-time students earning undergraduate, masters, advanced certificate, and doctoral degrees in musical theatre performance, classical voice performance, contemporary voice performance, and vocal pedagogy. The Vocal Performance Program serves a population of hybrid vocalists studying in one of three concentrations: classical voice, musical theatre, and contemporary voice. The ideal candidate for one of the positions is a voice teacher who is a specialist in one or more of the offered concentrations. The other position is open and we encourage candidates with a specialization in contemporary voice to apply, as well as candidates with a background in voice, acting, directing, coaching, and movement to apply. We are seeking candidates from a diversity of backgrounds who can augment and extend the current strengths of the program, who have a strong track record of teaching and administration in an academic setting and can support the growth of the new concentration track in contemporary voice within Vocal Performance.

Steinhardt seeks two dynamic Clinical Assistant Professors to engage in teaching and administration. The successful candidate will teach existing core courses to the undergraduate and/or graduate population, private voice lessons, song analysis, or other courses that match the candidate’s area of specialty. The administrative role includes student advisement and mentoring, hiring and supervision of adjunct faculty, and student recruitment and admissions, among other responsibilities. In addition, the candidate will participate in faculty meetings and serve on department, school and/or university committees.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Masters degree in a relevant field as well as demonstrated teaching and administrative experience and established professional profile are required. The ideal candidates have a musical background focused on the voice in the areas of classical voice, musical theatre, and/or contemporary voice.
