Job Description / Duties

AUDITION CALL

Auditions on Friday June 7, Saturday June 8, and Monday June 10, 2019. Additional auditions may be scheduled for late June, or by appointment.

The Museum of Modern Art, New York and National Chorale are seeking boy sopranos (unchanged male voices) to perform at MoMA, in the exhibition of a major live performance work by internationally recognized artists. MoMA will open its expanded campus on October 21, 2019, with a reimagined presentation of modern and contemporary art, and will include this performance as part of the museum’s exciting reopening program. 

Description:
The work will be presented at MoMA and consists of a sculptural environment, activated by live performance. Boy sopranos will sing a duet composed of atonal music and move around the space while singing. 

Auditions:
Friday June 7, Saturday June 8, and Monday June 10 in midtown Manhattan. 

Interested performers should prepare the following:
1. A section of the vocal duet to be performed at MoMA. The score will be provided in advance of the auditions. (Please see Application Instructions below.) 
2. A piece of music of the performer’s choice. An accompanist will be provided.  
3. Performers will also be expected to demonstrate proficiency in pitch matching. 

Rehearsals:
Rehearsals will take place at a studio in midtown Manhattan in July and August. Dress rehearsals will take place at MoMA in mid-September. 

Performances:
The exhibition will be on view from October 21, 2019 to Spring 2020. Performers will be contracted on a rotating schedule throughout the exhibition

Please note:
This is a paid position; performers will be compensated for both rehearsals and performances. National Chorale is registered with the New York State Department of Labor to employ child performers. Parents/guardians of hired performers will be required to provide additional documents and waivers, in order to satisfy compliancy. All rehearsals and performances will be chaperoned by National Chorale staff.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Solo or ensemble singing experience, or aspiring young voices with the ability to learn the selection under the guidance of a professional musician.
