Job Description / Duties

The Department of Music seeks applicants for a tenure-track faculty position beginning August 1, 2025. The selected candidate will be responsible for teaching courses in the candidate's area of expertise (Voice; Tenor/Baritone/Bass), maintaining scholarly productivity, and participating in service at the department, college, and University levels.

The Department of Music is made up of ~25 faculty/artist teachers and over 150 music majors and minors. The department presents over 150 musical performances for the public each year. In addition, several of the major performing ensembles within the department travel throughout Georgia, the Southeast and abroad, perform for schools, civic groups, and as part of community concert series. The Department of Music recently expanded into Powell Hall, a newly renovated, historically preserved, state-of-the-art music facility; featuring new administrative offices, a stunning 200-seat recital hall, faculty studios, rehearsal studios, and practice rooms. Responsibilities
Teaching undergraduate and graduate applied voice/lessons;
Teaching undergraduate and graduate voice classes such as diction and vocal pedagogy for majors and minors;
Recruiting and maintaining an active voice studio;
Working with studio classes;
Assist with the Opera - support the growing vocal/voice/Opera program within the Department of Music;
Maintaining an active regional, national, and international presence as a performer;
Additional teaching duties may be assigned based on qualifications and departmental needs;
Faculty members are expected to make substantive contributions to the Department including department, university, and community service.
Typical Allocation of Duties:

Teaching and scholarship - 80%
Teaches classes and conducts/presents research in the employee's academic discipline.

Service - 20%
Participates in service at the department, college, and university levels.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Required Qualifications
DMA or Ph.D. in Music/Voice (Tenor/Baritone/Bass) completed by appointment date;
Experience teaching as instructor of record at college/university level;
Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and learning.

Preferred Qualifications
Proven record of success as a professional performer and a record demonstrating a desire and ability to recruit;
A record of effective teaching appropriate to the applicant's career stage;
Ability to work effectively in a collaborative setting;
Commitment to fostering a collaborative environment and actively participating in departmental activities;
Experience assisting with or directing opera class/scenes.
Knowledge of online/hybrid teaching and Learning Management Systems;
A record of mentoring students of diverse backgrounds and trainings.

Additional Information
