Bio: Maria Lagios, soprano, graduated from the University of Michigan and Northwestern University. She has enjoyed a career in opera, oratorio, and musical theater throughout the United States, Europe and Asia. Ms. Lagios has served on the faculty at North Park University, Wheaton College and Concordia College. While serving on the faculty at Roosevelt University she established the biannual Art Song Festival and international art song celebration. She maintains an active private voice studio as a pedagogue and coach. Her master classes and recitals have been enthusiastically received in colleges and universities internationally. Acclaimed by critics for her interpretations of Britten, Ives, Hindemith, Messiaen and Cage, Ms. Lagios had established a reputation for her performances of contemporary works. Her guest appearances have included collaborations with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre de Bordeaux-Aquitaine, Chicago Baroque Ensemble, Chicago Brass Quintet, New Philharmonic, Fox Valley Symphony, Northwest Symphony, Elgin Symphony, Chicago String Ensemble and Exsultate Trio. She has been heard on television and radio, numerous PBS specials, Dame Myra Hess concert series, WFMT-Continental Bank and Live from Studio One. Her work as a commercial studio voice over artist has been aired internationally. With the Chicago Opera Theater, she performed the leading roles of Susanna (The Marriage of Figaro), Norina (Don Pasquale), Rosina (Barber of Seville), Despina (Cosi Fan Tutte), Perichole (La Perichole), Marie (Daughter of the Regiment), Mary Warren (The Crucible), Fiorilla (Turko in Italia) and Angel More (The Mother of Us All). Her voice can be heard on four compact discs: Chicago Studio Sampler, (www.chicagostudiosingers.com) a composite of Chicago’s finest commercial voice over singers, The Romance of Spain featuring her interpretation of Manual De Falla’s Siete Canciones populares españolas with Jamie Shaak, piano, Songs of Les Six, with pianist Elizabeth Buccheri, featuring songs of Poulenc, Honegger, Tailleferre, Auric, Milhaud and Durey and Songs from the Garden with pianist Dalton Baldwin, a collection of twenty-eight songs in ten languages from twelve countries reflecting the beauty of gardens.
