Stephanie Henkle

Bio: Stephanie Henkle, soprano, is a graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University and Indiana University, where she studied with renowned Metropolitan Opera star, Margaret Harshaw. She completed her doctoral coursework at The Ohio State University. Currently serving as an Affiliate Instructor on the faculty of Denison University, she has also enjoyed faculty positions at Otterbein College, Capital University, the University of Findlay, Cedarville University and Kenyon College, where she headed the voice division. She has taught Lyric Diction, Class Voice and Opera Workshop at the college level, and maintains a large private voice studio in Westerville. Many of her students are maintaining exciting careers as professional Classical and Musical Theatre performers, as well as successful Music Educators. Ms. Henkle has won numerous awards and competitions, including the Metropolitan Opera District Auditions, First Place in the Opera/Columbus Competition, the NATSAA State Artist Award and the Eleanor Steber Foundation Award. A recipient of the Theodore Presser Prize for four years, she also was awarded the Margaret Speaks Scholarship at The Ohio State University and performed as winner of the Doctoral Concerto Competition there. As a soloist at Carnegie Recital Hall, Kennedy Center with the National Symphony, Washington’s National Cathedral and concert halls throughout the United States, Canada, Germany, Austria, Hungary and the Czech Republic, she has sung under Leonard Bernstein, Robert Shaw, Robert Page, Helmuth Rilling and Antal Dorati. Among the summer programs in which she has participated are The American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria, the Tanglewood Festival, Chautauqua Institute and the Eastman School of Music Vocal Jazz Symposium. Active as an oratorio soloist, recitalist and jazz singer, Ms. Henkle presents her acclaimed cabaret, A Salute to the Divas of Broadway, in a variety of venues. Immediate Past President of the Buckeye Chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing, she was recently appointed to the office of Ohio District Governor in the organization. Ms. Henkle resides in Westerville, Ohio, with her husband, Jim, and pooch, Kirby. Her grown son, Seth, is an active professional musician in Detroit.
