Bio: Soprano Pia Brodnik is a graduate of Wilfrid Laurier University, Waterloo, Canada. Her mentors were dr. David Falk and maestro Richard Miller. She is full time professor of singing and vocal pedagogy as well as head of Voice department at the University of Ljubljana, Academy of Music (2008 - 2017). She conducts seminars, summer schools, participates in congresses of vocal pedagogy worldwide and writes articles on singing techniques and repertoire. Her students are awarded prizes at national and international competitions. She is a founding member of the Slovenian Association of Teachers of Singing (DSPP) and a member of the American National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) and European Voice Teachers Association (EVTA). Beside teaching she performs regularly. She began her professional career in 1996 with a solo recital in the Vocal subscription concerts of Slovenian Philharmonic in Ljubljana. Since then she appeared in several hundred solo recitals and concerts across Slovenia, Austria, Germany, Italy, Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro, Kosovo, Canada and USA, performing music from baroque to contemporary. She performs chamber music together with renown soloists such as Vladimir Mlinarić, Marina Horak, Milko Bizjak, Sylvie Gazeau, Miroslav Lončar, Slavko Goričar, Zoran Marković, Domen Marinčič, Maks Strmčnik, Mateja Bajt, Marcos Fink etc., at festivals in Radenci, Ljubljana, Maribor, Radovljica, Hvar, Varaždin, Kanal, Gorizia, Belgrade etc., with various conductors, such as Mirko Cuderman, Uroš Lajovic, Lior Shambadal, Anton Nanut, John Axelrod, Wolfgang Schmidt, Darinka Matić Marović, Claude Villaret, Simon Robinson, Dejan Savić, Predrag Gosta and many others. She sang several opera roles in Canada, in the Czech Republic, in Switzerland and in Slovenia. She performs many oratorio works, arias and songs with several orchestras such as the Slovenian Philharmonic, the Slovenian Symphony Orchestra, the Slovenian National Theatre Maribor Orchestra, Troupe Romande Orchestra, the Narodno Divadlo Opava Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra, the National Theatre Belgrade Orchestra and many others. Seven CDs were released, namely: Deutche Lieder by Benjamin Ipavec, Slovenian Folk Songs, The Songs of Henry Duparc, Ave Gratia Plena - Sacred Songs, The Unknown Chopin – Songs and opera The Name on the Tip of the Tongue by contemporary Slovenian composer M. Vrhovnik- Smrekar. She is proud of her CD (Edition Lilac USA) of the 16 arias from all famous Puccini operas with the London Symphony Orchestra at the famous Abbey Road Studios. In 2014 she recorded 22 songs of one of the most important Slovenian song composer Anton Lajovic with world renown pianist Charles Spencer. The CD was released in January 2017. She regularly records for the archives of the Radio Television Slovenia.
