Bio: Wendy Hillhouse, mezzo soprano, has achieved a versatility and mastery of diverse repertoire which is rare. She has performed with the Metropolitan Opera, the Glyndebourne Festival and many major American opera companies. Early in her career she won numerous competitions and awards, including the Metropolitan Opera Auditions, and the Pavarotti International Competition. She has directed Conrad Susa’s The Wise Women, Candide, The Ballad of Baby Doe, One Touch of Venus and A Little Night Music at Stanford, and this year will direct The Marriage of Figaro. Wendy has been researching the vocal music of Henry Cowell, and in 2013 her edition of Cowell’s one-act opera The Commission was performed at Stanford. She is a member of the voice faculty of Stanford University, and formerly taught at San Francisco Conservatory of Music. She also is a past Northern California District Governor and past President of the San Francisco Bay Area Chapter of NATS (National Association of Teachers of Singing), holds B.M. and B.A. degrees from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and U.C. Berkeley, and a Masters in Liberal Arts from Stanford University.
