
Soprano Barbee Monk has been private music teacher for over fourteen years. Her current and former students have professional credits including Broadway, Off-Broadway, national tours, opera, regional theatre, TV, film, and more. Many of her students have gone on to study music and theatre at the university level, at schools such as Montclair State University, AMDA, New Jersey City University, and Stetson University.
In addition to teaching, Ms. Monk is an active professional soprano. Her favorite roles include Donna Anna (Don Giovanni), Konstanze (Die Entführung aus dem Serail), Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte), Rosalinde (Die Fledermaus), Pamina (Die Zauberflöte), Anne Page (Vaughan Williams’ Sir John in Love), and Galatea (Acis and Galatea). She has performed sacred repertoire including Handel’s Messiah, Mendelssohn’s Elijah, Fauré’s Requiem, Mozart’s Exsultate, jubilate, Bach’s St. John Passion, Saint-Saëns’ Christmas Oratorio, and Vivaldi’s Gloria. She has sung with Bronx Opera Company, Geneva Light Opera, New Rochelle Opera, Light Opera of New Jersey, Opera Theatre of Montclair, Miami Lyric Opera, Alhambra Orchestra, and New Jersey Music Society.
Ms. Monk holds a Master of Music in Vocal Performance from the University of Miami and a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance with Latin Honors and University Honors from the University of North Florida. She received additional training at OperaWorks, the New York Opera Conservatory, and the European Music Academy in Prague. She is a proud resident of Hudson County, NJ.
