Bio: Recognized for her elegant and versatile singing in works spanning the Renaissance to contemporary composers, mezzo-soprano Kate Maroney was featured worldwide in over 75 performances of Einstein on the Beach with the Philip Glass Ensemble. Kate has recently appeared as a soloist at Lincoln Center with the American Classical Orchestra and Sacred Music in a Sacred Space (Bach Mass in B Minor), Amor Artis (Bach Magnificat), Clarion Music Society (Steinberg Passion Week), “A Memorial to Allen Forte” at Yale University with Cantata Profana (Webern’s Op. 4 Fünf Lieder mach Gedichte von Stefan George), Bach Vespers at Holy Trinity, Bard Music Festival, with Anonymous 4 and The Bangor Symphony, Princeton Pro Musica, Ekmeles Vocal Ensemble at the MATA Festival, Bach Collegium San Diego, Mark Morris Dance Group, Yale Choral Artists,Vox Vocal Ensemble at The Guggenheim Museum, St. Luke in the Fields, Trinity Wall Street, American Opera Projects, Berkshire Bach Society, Brooklyn Art Song Society, Fairfield County Chorale, and the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. Kate is a founding member of New York’s Polydora Ensemble which specializes in Romantic repertoire for SATB quartet and piano and also commissions and premieres new works for these personnel. Kate was 2013 prizewinner in the New York Oratorio Lyndon Woodside Soloist competition and debuted as a soloist in Handel’s Dixit Dominus in Carnegie’s Zankal Hall and Chicago’s Orchestra Hall. A champion of new music, Kate performed the U.S. premiere of Damon Albarn’s Monkey: Journey to the West at the David Koch Theatre during the Lincoln Center Festival in 2013 under Brad Lubman. She premiered Missy Mazzoli’s Song From The Uproar at The Kitchen in 2012 and is heard on the premiere cast recording on New Amsterdam Records with the Now Ensemble under Stephen Osgood. Kate recorded James Adler’s Reflections upon a September morn for Albany Records. Kate has worked closely with and premiered works by composers Philip Glass, Julia Wolfe, Daron Hagen, Matthew Welch, Hannah Lash, Ted Hearne, Olga Bell, Lisa Bielawa, Harry Stafylakis, Chris Cerrone, Jacob Cooper, Michael Rose, Marie Incontrera, Andrew McKenna Lee, Ola Gjeilo, and Scott Wheeler. Upcoming engagements include soloist appearances with New York City Ballet (Mendelssohn’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream), at the Oregon Bach Festival as under Matthew Halls, Missy Mazzoli’s Song From the Uproar at LA Opera, and Einstein on the Beach in South Korea. Kate holds a D.M.A. from Eastman, as well as degrees in music from SUNY Purchase and Yale. She teaches voice and voice pedagogy at Mannes NEXT (The New School.)
