Bio: Internationally acclaimed soprano Alison Trainer is a gifted singing actress, who has garnered top prizes in major vocal competitions and performed with opera companies, symphony orchestras, and on recital stages across the United States and Europe. Her career began in 2000, when she debuted as Papagena in Die Zauberflôte with Boston Lyric Opera. Over the following ten years, she performed all over the United States with companies such as New York City Opera, New Jersey Opera, Glimmerglass Opera, Boston Lyric Opera, Tulsa Opera, San Francisco Opera, Asheville Symphony, New Jersey Symphony, Phoenix Symphony, Erie Philharmonic, Pennsylvania Symphony & Ballet, Sinfonie St. Gallen, and the National Chorale in Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center. She began her European career in 2009, when she debuted and received rave reviews for her portrayal of Fiakermilli in Arabella. Between 2010-2017, she performed with opera companies in Germany and Switzerland, debuting many of her signature coloratura roles, such as Zerbinetta in Ariadne auf Naxos, Fiakermilli in Arabella, Blondchen in Die Entführung aus dem Seraglio, Gilda in Rigoletto, Rosina in Il barbiere di Siviglia. Dr. Trainer was a national semi-finalist in the Metropolitan Opera Competition, first place winner in New York City's Liederkranz Competition, and the top prize winner in New York City’s Sullivan Foundation Competition. She earned a Bachelor of Music degree from Indiana University, a Master of Music degree from Cincinnati Conservatory (CCM), a Performer’s Certificate from the Opera Institute at Boston University, and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree at Stony Brook University. She has been an apprentice artist with Glimmerglass Opera and San Francisco Opera’s Merola program, and a vocal fellow at Tanglewood Music Festival and Aspen Music Festival. Dr. Trainer is an Assistant Professor of Voice at Boston University. Dr. Trainer is on the summer faculty of Opera Seme in Arezzo, Italy, and Interlochn Arts Camp in Interlochen, MI. Alison continues to sing professionally, and maintains a private studio for exceptionally talented young, pre-professional, and professional singers.
