Bio: Rae Jean Teeter is currently a teaching artist at The College of Saint Rose in Albany after retiring in 2021 from her position as the Director of Vocal Music at Guilderland High School. While at Guilderland she developed a choral curriculum that has been recognized throughout the state for its excellence in performance and in the use of Music Learning Theory and Laban Movement Theory to develop the aural skills and total musicianship of her singers. Mrs. Teeter received her bachelor’s degree from the Eastman School of Music where she studied voice with Masako Toribara and choral conducting with Donald Neuen. She received her master’s degree in Music Education from The College of Saint Rose. She has done extensive post graduate work at the Westminster Choir College where she has studied with such notable choral directors as James Jordan, Bruce Chamberlain, and Weston Nobel. Mrs. Teeter served as the NYACDA High School Repertoire and Standards chairperson from 2005-2008 and is a contributing author for “Teaching Music Through Performance in Choir Vol. 2” published by GIA music. Rae Jean is a certified NYSSMA vocal adjudicator and currently serves as the Voice chair for the NYSSMA Adjudication Festival Committee. Mrs. Teeter has been a guest conductor for many all-county, regional and area all-state choruses and has presented sessions for ACDA, GIML and NAFME at both the state and divisional levels speaking on the development of the male voice and methods for cultivating excellent aural skills and music literacy in choral singers. Mrs. Teeter has maintained an active private vocal studio both at her home and at a satellite studio for 20+ years. Several of her former students have gone on to professional singing careers both in musical theater and regional opera.
