Title: vocologist/SLP/voice therapist/singing teacher

Bio:

Karen Sussman, MA, CCC, the founder and director of the Professional Voice Care Center (https://provoicecare.net) in Hicksville, NY, has been a licensed speech pathologist, voice therapist, singing teacher, and speech trainer since 1981. Karen has trained thousands of performers, teachers, executives, and other professional voice users to achieve excellent singing and/or speaking voices and eliminate voice and speech problems. Her mission at the Professional Voice Care Center is to create or restore excellent voices, both the speaking and the singing voice. A retired singer/actress with over 1200 on-stage credits, Karen has incorporated her love of singing and her expertise in solving voice problems into her Singing Voice Mastery and Therapeutic Singing programs. These programs cover numerous vocal styles and genres, including musical theater, classical, pop, rock, jazz, gospel, cantorial, and choral music. The focus is on development of a healthy dependable technique, free of muscle tension and strain, based on scientific principles of voice production. Sight-singing instruction, NYSSMA and audition preparation, and lessons via Skype are available. All sessions are held in-person or via safe and convenient online platforms.

Karen has lectured on voice care and training for hospitals, voice symposia, corporations, choirs, and continuing education programs. She has appeared on television and radio shows devoted to voice care and accent reduction, and also authored a book chapter on voice care, as well as a journal article on voice care for exercise physiologists. Karen is a Hofstra University graduate with a B.S. in Music/Voice Performance and an M.A. in Speech-Language Pathology. She is a member of Voice and Speech Trainers Association (VASTA), American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, New York State Speech-Language-Hearing Association, and Long Island Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Believing that the human instrument needs to be in a fit and healthy human body, Karen can often be found hiking (and singing) in the mountains with her dogs.
