Bio:

Shannon Wise, soprano

Shannon Wise holds a Bachelor's degree in Vocal Performance from Illinois Wesleyan University, a Master's Degree in Vocal Performance from the University of Illinois, and a Master of Science Degree in Pastoral Counseling from Loyola University of Maryland. She made her professional singing debut in 1999 with the Opera Theatre of Northern Virginia as Bertha in Rossini's The Barber of Seville and received their Artist of the Year in 1999. From 2003 – 2009 Shannon was a professional member of the Master Chorale of Washington, singing under the direction of Donald McCullough. She served as a section leader and as a soloist in the Chorale’s performance of the Rutter Gloria! at the Kennedy Center and Berkey’s Arma Lucis at the National Presbyterian Church. Shannon recently returned to performing in community theatre and was thrilled to play the role of Maria in The Sound of Music at the Congregational Summer Assembly summer theatre in Pilgrim, Michigan in 2018. She is looking forward to another engagement at the CSA summer theatre in August, 2022 when she will be playing the role of Mrs. Potts in Beauty and the Beast.

Shannon has served as the Music Director at Herndon United Methodist Church for the past 11 years. She conducts vocal ensembles, handbell choirs and an annual Christmas Orchestra, and coordinates special vocal and instrumental music for Sunday worship services. She has a love for all genres of music and enjoys singing a wide variety of styles in both her solo and ensemble work. In addition to her conducting pursuits, Shannon teaches private voice lessons in her home studio, WiseWorks, where she combines her various degrees in a holistic approach to vocal instruction that focuses on both the physical and mental aspects of singing. She resides in Herndon, VA with her loving and supportive husband, Mike, her three amazing children- Em, Joshua and Aaron, and her wonderfully spoiled dogs, Chloe and Daisy. She performed as a soloist in the Chorale’s performance of the Rutter Gloria! in the Kennedy Center and Berkey’s Arma Lucis at National Presbyterian Church. In 2004, Shannon accepted the position of Music Director at Oakton United Methodist Church, where she developed a love of conducting. She became the Music Director at Herndon United Methodist Church in 2010, where she currently conducts several vocal ensembles, handbell choirs and an annual Christmas Orchestra. She also supervises the other musical staff and coordinates special solo and ensemble music for Sunday worship services and concerts. Shannon has a love of all genres of music and enjoys singing a wide variety of styles in both her solo and ensemble work. She performs vocal recitals in the DC metro area with her sister, Erin, and with the Pax Dei Trio, a professional ensemble combining voice, harp, and flute (www.paxdeitrio.com). She has a love of both classical and music theater styles and has performed several roles in community theater, including Laurie in Oklahoma, Sarah in Guys and Dolls, and Maria in The Sound of Music. She will be performing the role of Mrs. Potts in Beauty and the Beast in the summer of 2020. In addition to her conducting and performing work, Shannon recently launched the Wise Works Studio where she combines her music and counseling degrees in a holistic approach to vocal instruction that focuses on both the physical and mental aspects of singing. She has a passion for introducing students to a variety of vocal literature and encouraging them to embrace their full vocal potential. Shannon resides in Herndon, VA with her loving and supportive husband, Mike, her three amazing children- Emma, Joshua and Aaron, and her wonderfully spoiled dog, Chloe.
