Bio:

DC-area born and raised soprano Sarah Lennertz is known for her dynamic range and committed characterizations. She was most recently seen as Arminda in Mozart’s Die Gärtnerin aus Liebe at Middlebury College and as Lady Billows in the Boston University Opera Institute’s production of Albert Herring. Sarah has participated in several young artist programs, including Middlebury German School Deutsch für Sänger, Opera in the Ozarks, Russian Opera Workshop, Bethesda Summer Music Festival, and La Musica Lirica. In addition to Arminda and Lady Billows, she has sung the roles of Donna Anna (Don Giovanni), Miss Pinkerton (The Old Maid and the Thief), Farinelli’s Trainer (David Little’s Vinkensport), Tamara (Rubinstein’s The Demon), Noémie (Cendrillon), Elaine O’Neill (Musto’s Later the Same Evening), and Pamina (Die Zauberflöte). She has covered the roles of the Countess (Le nozze di Figaro), Fiordiligi (Cosí fan tutte), and Zina (Muhly’s Dark Sisters). She has starred in scenes as Giorgetta (Il Tabarro), the Marschallin (Der Rosenkavalier), Alice Ford (Die lustige Weiber von Windsor), Emmeline (Picker’s Emmeline), Rosalinda (Die Fledermaus), and Elettra (Idomeneo). Sarah is a frequent winner of prizes and scholarships. She was a Max Kade Fellowship scholarship recipient at the Middlebury Deutsch für Sänger program. At Boston University, she was an Edith Garrett & Erma Fischer scholarship recipient; and at George Mason University, she was a Peterson Music Project scholarship winner. She was a finalist at Boston University’s Soloists’ Competition and at the MetroWest Opera Competition, Young Artist Division. She has won first prize, third prize and was an honor’s recipient at the National Association of Teachers of Singing Virginia State and Mid-Atlantic Region competitions. Sarah earned her Doctorate of Musical Arts from Boston University and is an experienced and committed music educator. During her doctoral studies at BU, she taught private voice lessons, class voice, and acting for singers. As equally comfortable in musical theater and pop genres, her students have successfully auditioned for and participated in Boston University a cappella groups and BU On Broadway productions. Before moving to Boston for her graduate studies, Sarah was an elementary general music teacher in Fairfax County Public Schools, Virginia. She received her Master of Music from Boston University and her Bachelor of Music from George Mason University.

Sarah presents a clear and systematic approach to learning while never losing sight of the fun and joy that can be had while creating music. By creating a safe space, she enables students to eliminate tension in their voices and reach their fullest potential as singers. Drawing upon her diverse teaching background, Sarah tailors her instruction to each student’s individual learning style.
