Bio:

Carter Michael Houston is a rising baritone from Erie, Pennsylvania. Carter is a dedicated voice teacher and performer in the Erie area. He believes that music is for everyone, regardless of age, background, or experience. He welcomes students of all backgrounds and enjoys teaching a wide range of styles, from classical to contemporary.

In the Summer of 2025, Houston was a studio artist in the Lehrer Music Institute at Music Academy of the West. Recent operatic performances include Nick Shadow in Stravinsky’s The Rake’s Progress (Florida State Opera), Bartolo in Il barbiere di Siviglia (Florida State Opera), and the Marquis in Dialogues of the Carmelites (Penn State Opera). He has also performed in opera galas with orchestra, opera outreach, FSU’s Early Music Ensemble, and multiple scenes programs. Houston was recently a finalist in the 2025 Madame Rose Palmai – Tenser Vocal Scholarship Competition, a winner of the 2023 Beaulieu Competition, and winner of the 2022 Brewster Scholarship Competition. Off the operatic stage, Houston enjoys teaching private voice lessons, playing keyboard and music directing for community theatre productions, and walking his four dogs. Houston received his Master’s Degree in Voice Performance with a graduate teaching assistantship at Florida State University under the tutelage of Professor David Okerlund. He received his Bachelor of Music from the Schreyer Honors College at Penn State University.
