Bio:

Sonia received her BM in Voice Performance from Seoul National University before going on to earn her MM in Voice Performance from the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatorio in Milan, Italy. Sonia has sung in many of the top opera houses around the world, including; the Piacenza Municipale Opera House (Italy), Gran Teatre del Liceu (Barcelona, Spain), Kammeroper (Vien, Austria), Vercelli Opera House (Italy), Seoul Opera House (S. Korea), Theatre Royal Glasgow (UK) and New York City Opera. Sonia made her European opera debut at the Piacenza Municipale Opera House. She has sung for several seasons at the Seoul National Opera and Seoul Art Center Opera House. That appearance marked the start of her career as a lyric soprano, and she has since performed in multiple lyric soprano roles in the US, Italy, Austria, and S. Korea. In the United States she haas sung Cho Cho San in Giaccomo Puccini Madama Butterfly, as well as numerous other roles for the Seoul Opera House. When Sonia was in Italy, she won many international competitions. She placed 1st at the Flaviano Labo international competition, and 3rd at the Mario Basiola International Competition. She also won numerous prizes at the Imperia, Katia Ricciarelli, Viotti, Angelica Catalani International Competitions in Italy, the Belvedere International in Austria, and the Vinas international competition in Spain.

Ms. Sonia has performed as the lead role in many operas, such as Madama Butterfly, La Boheme, La Traviata, Un Ballo in Maschera, Aida II Trovatore, La forza del Destino, Tosca, Don Carlo, Romeo et Juliet, Rusalka, Otello, Le Nozze di Figaro, and many others. She has also performed in The Magic Flute in Vienna Austria. In total she has performed more than 700 concerts in New York, Fairfax, and the many cities in Europe and South Korea. Ms. Sonia has over 25 years of teaching experience and was and adjunct professor as Seoul National University for several years where she taught voice, piano, Italian dictation, and opera theater. She gives lessons in the traditional Bel Canto technique to professional singers as well as high school students, many of whom are going on to major in vocal performance. She is able to teach in Italian, German, and French, as well as any kind of opera or broadway genres. Many of her students have been admitted to NYU, Manhattan School of Music, London Royal Academy, Indiana, Jacob School of Music and Arizona University, Carnegie Melon University, Oberlin Conservatory, North Carolina Chaple Hill University and Boston Conservatory, Pace college.
