Title: Director of Choral Activites

Bio: “In every respect, Ken was born to share his gifts. As a teacher, he is perceptive, articulate, and honest; as a person, he is kind and understanding. He has the singular ability to release something beautiful through his patience and clarity of teaching, and no one who knew me before I started studying with Ken could have imagined me singing the way I do now (or becoming a classical voice performance major at a top conservatory). Ken is easy to work with and creates a warm environment in his studio. Above all, Ken remains strikingly humble and caring while producing consistently impressive results.” Ellen F., student since 2009, Manhattan School of Music ’15. \n \nThank you for visiting my profile. I maintain a full-time private vocal studio in New Jersey and serve as a member of the voice faculty at The Pingry School in Martinsville, NJ. In June of 2010, I was privileged to be one of 12 educators to participate in the highly selective NATS Intern Program. I hold a master’s degree in music from The Juilliard School and a bachelor's degree in music from Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. \n \nMy teaching philosophy is continuously evolving. As I reflect on my beliefs regarding both the teaching and learning processes, I find that my mission as an educator comprises four main objectives: to provide a healthy and sustainable vocal technique; to lay a strong foundation for lifelong learning; to spark student enthusiasm for learning; and to maintain a positive learning atmosphere. To accomplish these goals, I apply a wide variety of strategies, best summarized as “3 Ps”: physiological (providing students with the knowledge of how their instruments work and what their bodies are doing as they sing), psychological (figuring out what makes each student tick and what approaches will best work for him or her), and performance (assessing one's own performance, as well as observing and evaluating colleagues' presentations). While I realize that each young artist’s potential is different, I encourage all of my students to want the best and to realize that their only limitations are the ones they set. I consider it my duty to help them achieve their goals, and to that end, I teach solid, healthy vocal technique, rather than a few quick fixes that will help with one song. I also make an effort to stay up-to-date on news and events in the field. I continue to further my own education and maintain an active performing schedule in conjunction with my teaching. I believe this work makes me a better educator--one who remains profoundly committed to his professional mission. \n \nStudents’ recent accomplishments include acceptance into the NJ All-State and Regional choruses; school select choirs and musical theater productions; summer programs at the Paper Mill Playhouse and CAP21; and prestigious college music and drama programs, including Manhattan School of Music, Ithaca College, Indiana University-Jacobs School of Music, New York University, Westminster Choir College, and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, and many others. \n \nI invite you to visit my website at www.kennethbryson.com for additional information about me including a full biography, recordings, additional lesson information, and my charity work \n(Singing for a Cure).
