Bio:

Doctoral Graduate Assistant, West Virginia - beginning Fall 2022. Currently accepting private students in my Morgantown, WV studio, and via Zoom. I am a proud member of NATS, and proud of my students'success in Chapter and Regional NATS auditions. With a voice deemed “warm – toned, lyrical, and shining,” Soprano Blythe Walker is internationally acclaimed for her performances in Recital, Chamber Music, Opera, Concert and Musical Theater, as well as an experienced liturgical singer in the Judeo – Christian tradition. In a varied and distinguished career, her beautiful voice and sensitive musicality, her comedic gifts and powerful dramatic acting, her inquisitive approach to the repertoire and dedication to her craft, have made her a favorite with audiences, colleagues, students, and with leading conductors, directors, and composers. Metropolitan Opera National Council Winner in 1987, Ms Walker made her Metropolitan Opera company debut in 1988 as Najade in Ariadne auf Naxos, under the baton of James Levine. In addition to the Met, Blythe has performed with New York City Opera, Boston Opera, Santa Fe Opera, Cincinnati Opera, Opera Orchestra of New York, NY Public Theater, Orchestra of St. Luke’s, Cincinnati Symphony, on Broadway and with many other opera companies, orchestras, festivals and theaters in the US and abroad. An adventurous and compelling recitalist dedicated to keeping the art of the song recital alive, Ms Walker was presented in her New York recital debut by the Liederkranz Foundation in 1990. Ms Walker is charter member of 3 chamber music ensembles – LeVassor Chamber Players, Concert Nova, and Providence Premieres, all dedicated to exploring vocal chamber music and championing new works.

Career highlights include collaborations with Leonard Bernstein, Stephen Sondheim and Peter Schickele (PDQ Bach) and performances with James Levine, Sir Charles Mackerras, Keith Lockhart, Paul Gemingnani, James Conlon, Erich Kunzel, and Jesus Lopez – Cobos. Ms Walker has been a featured performer on PBS Great Performances and on NPR, and can be heard in recording on the TELARC, RCA, Chandos and Painted Smiles labels. A respected and sought – after teacher, coach, director and adjudicator, Blythe has held faculty positions at University of Cincinnati – College/Conservatory of Music and Northern Kentucky University, and formed the Young Singers of Santa Fe Opera program for high school students in 2008. In 2007, CCM Undergraduate Opera Project production of L’Enfant et les Sortileges, co - directed by Blythe, won First Place in its category in the National Opera Association competition. From 2007 - 2012 Blythe was Director of Vocal Studies at New York Summer Music Festival at SUNY, Oneonta, New York. Blythe graduates in May 2017 with MM in Voice Pedagogy & Performance at Penn State University.
