Laura Shepherd is a passionate and skilled teacher of singing, offering private lessons to young people and adults since 2005 on the Eastside of Seattle. Most of Laura’s singers are middle and high school students performing in musical theater productions, singing in choir, and generally loving music. With an exceptional background in performing and teaching music, including musical theater, classical, jazz and folk styles, Laura is an excellent teacher for the beginning to advanced singing student.
Students ages 9 to adult will benefit from focusing on healthy posture, breathing and technique. Laura's goal is for students to become self-aware as they bring energy from their breath and the story of the music into their singing. Laura received her undergraduate training and degrees in Music Education and Theatre from Oberlin College and Conservatory of Music, and her MA in Educational Theatre from NYU. Outside of formal training, Laura has learned tons about teaching singing from colleagues and presenters through NATS events since 2010, as well as the Bel Canto Can Belto workshop through Penn State University in 2020. She is also a Washington State certified Music teacher.
