Bio: Laurence Albert has sung a repertoire of fifty operatic roles internationally. He has performed with the St. Louis Opera Theatre, the Opéra de la Bastille (Paris Opera), Oper Frankfurt, Alte Oper Frankfurt, the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, and the Théâtre des Champs Elysées. He is featured on the historic George Enescu “Oedipe” recording of EMI-Pathé-Marconi, with the Monte Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Lawrence Foster. He has recorded Aubert Lemeland’s opera “Laure - Ou la Lettre au Cachet Rouge” on the Skarbo label with the Staatsorchester Rheinische Philharmonie conducted by Marc Tardue, and George Frederick Handel’s “Messiah” on the Musick’s Monument label with the Gioia Della Musica Prahna conducted by Marc Brown. Laurence Albert’s recording of “The K’dusha Symphony” written and conducted by Abraham Kaplan, features Roberta Peters on the Camerata Singers, Inc. label, and his Franz Joseph Haydn “Nelson Mass” with the Orchestra of the Golden Age is conducted by Denis McCaldin on the Meridian label. Laurence Albert has been awarded a Bachelor of Arts degree by Morehouse College, a Diploma in Performance of the German Lied by the Franz Schubert Institut of Austria, and the Graduate Diploma in Vocal Performance by the St. Louis Conservatory of Music (CASA). A native of Memphis, Tennessee; he was a national winner of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions held in New York’s Lincoln Center in 1981, prizewinner of the Concours de Chant de Paris (Opera and Song), the International Concours Tryptique de Paris de la Mélodie Française (Grand Prize), the Beethoven Club of Memphis (Song/Recital), and twice, the Franz Schubert Institut Prize of Austria (German Lieder). Laurence Albert is an Assistant Professor of Music, teaching voice, music history, music literature, as well as opera workshop, at Tougaloo College in Jackson, Mississippi
