NATS Members are invited to propose and present Spotlight Sessions! Submit by June 15, 2026
NATS wants to spotlight members whose expertise lives at the exciting intersection of jazz and opera. As we gather in the vibrant musical spirit of New Orleans, we invite you to share ideas, performances, and perspectives that celebrate artistic innovation, collaboration, and fearless creativity across these genres.
What can you bring to the table?
Does your area of interest and expertise uniquely position you to contribute to the conversation of artists honoring tradition and performance practice while boldly crossing the genre boundaries of jazz and opera?- What happens when operatic technique meets the spontaneity and soul of jazz?
- In what ways has jazz shaped contemporary classical music, Broadway, or popular vocal styles?
- How can singers and teachers embrace stylistic versatility while maintaining healthy, sustainable vocal technique?
- What bold ideas or fresh perspectives are reshaping the future of vocal performance as genre lines blur and blend into contemporary creations?
- How can improvisation, rhythm, and storytelling deepen artistic expression across the vocal traditions of jazz and opera?

Submission Requirements & Details:
- All proposals must be submitted by a current NATS member.
- The exact dates of the workshop are TBD but the event will take place in January of 2027.
- If selected, you must renew your membership no later than the official membership renewal date is January 1, 2027.
- Presentation “working” title
- 250-word abstract outlining the topic, content, and format of the presentation
- Session should be no more than 1 hour long
- List of five anticipated outcomes or benefits for workshop attendees
- Headshot
- 150-word biography
Submission Deadline: June 15, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. ET.
Selections will be announced at the NATS National Conference in San Antonio!
