Presentation of NATS Lifetime Achievement Awards
Honoring Barbara Hill Moore and Robert Sataloff
The NATS Lifetime Achievement Awards honor longtime contributions to voice community through pedagogy, research, and leadership. The 2026 awards will recognize and celebrate two titans of our field.
Barbara Hill Moore
Barbara Hill Moore, Senior Associate Dean for Faculty and Meadows Foundation Distinguished Professor of Voice at Southern Methodist University (SMU), has enjoyed an illustrious teaching career that began in St. Louis in 1965 and has continued at SMU since 1974. Hill Moore sang in operas, recitals, and concerts in Europe and North America, including more than 50 performances of Kurt Weill’s Threepenny Opera in Berlin, singing the role of Jenny. Her recent focus has been serving as a master teacher, mentor, and advisor to aspiring young artists in classes, private lessons, and advisory sessions throughout North America, Europe, Asia and Africa.
She received her bachelor’s degree from Lincoln University, a master’s degree as a graduate fellow from the University of Illinois, and an honorary D.F.A. from Lincoln University. The SMU Faculty Career Achievement Award, the National Opera Association Legacy Award, the NATS Barbara Hill Moore Emerging Teaching Artists Award, and the University of Illinois Distinguished Alumni Award are among many honors she has received throughout her celebrated 60-year teaching career.
