headshots/Casey_Carter_1.jpgCasey L. Carter is a clinician, workshop presenter, and singing actor of opera and concert repertoire throughout the Southwest. He serves as Professor of Voice and Chair of the Department of Music at Collin College in North Texas. A lifelong member of the Texoma Region of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS), he has progressed from student competitor to teacher, mentor, and regional leader dedicated to supporting singers, teachers, and the broader voice community.

Casey’s professional involvement with NATS began in the Dallas–Fort Worth Chapter auditions suite and has expanded into regional leadership focused on community building, professional development, and student opportunity. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he created the Texoma Region’s Cozy Conference initiative, fostering connection and professional engagement during a period of unprecedented isolation. He currently serves as the long-standing Dallas–Fort Worth Chapter Auditions Chair and is entering his third year as Texoma Region Auditions Chair. Through these roles, he has become a strong advocate for initiatives that promote transparency, accessibility, consistency, and student-centered growth in vocal education.

As he begins service on the NATS Board of Directors, Casey looks forward to supporting the continued development of the National Student Auditions and initiatives, helping strengthen consistency, clarity, and accessibility across all levels of NATS auditions. He is particularly committed to fostering collaborative solutions that support students, teachers, adjudicators, and audition administrators while preserving the collegial spirit and educational mission that define the organization.

As an educator, Casey teaches applied voice, lyric diction, music literature, honors coursework, directs the Opera Workshop, and serves as music director for the theatre department’s annual musical production. His teaching philosophy centers on developing sustainable vocal technique, expressive artistry, and the transformative power of mentorship. Known for fostering an inclusive and welcoming learning environment, he has guided students toward successful transfer and graduate study opportunities at institutions including Furman University, Oklahoma City University, Temple University, Texas Christian University, the State University of New York system, and West Texas A&M University.

An award-winning Professor of the Year, Casey remains an active performer throughout Texas and the Southwest. His concert repertoire includes a wide range of historical and contemporary Hebrew art song and sacred literature, as well as works by Bach, Brahms, Britten, Handel, Heggie, and Wolf. His stage appearances have featured such roles as the Witch in Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel, Candide in Bernstein’s Candide, and Kaspar in Menotti’s Amahl and the Night Visitors.

Casey holds a Master of Music degree in Voice, awarded with honors, from Texas Christian University and a Master of Theological Studies degree in Hebrew and Jewish Studies from Brite Divinity School at Texas Christian University. He is currently completing a Ph.D. in Critical Pedagogy, with research focused on Music Pedagogy-as-Praxis and the ways teaching, learning, and artistic development intersect to foster meaningful educational experiences.
