Semifinal Round Information & Schedule

Semifinal Round Audition Schedule - Posted June 27, 2014 pdf_icon.gif

Congratulations on your advancement to the Semifinal round of auditions for the NATS National Student Auditions.

Here are some important details regarding your audition:

Date: Sunday, July 6, 2014

Location: Boston Conservatory of Music

Time:  9:00 a.m. start time for Categories I, III, V, VII, IX, and XII
1:30 p.m. start time for Categories II, IV, VI, VIII, X, XI

Each singer has been assigned a specific audition time and consideration has been given to those competing in more than one category in order to allow sufficient time in between auditions. At this time, there will be NO adjustments made to audition times - this is considered the FINAL schedule.

Attire: Standard audition attire - dress or skirt and blouse for women and suit and tie for men.

Rehearsal: There will be no rehearsal time allotted for singers using the staff accompanists in the semifinal round.  However, there are several practice rooms at The Boston Conservatory that you may use for warm up, and you will have the opportunity to confer quietly with the accompanist in the audition room just before singing regarding tempo, etc. If you are bringing your own accompanist, you are welcome to use the practice rooms at the Boston Conservatory with your accompanist, and there are also practice rooms available 6am-12am each day at the Boston Marriott Copley Place.

Procedure: The semifinal round of auditions will be performed in a variety of spaces (classrooms to concert halls), running concurrently at the Boston Conservatory of Music.  The auditions are open to the public; but some spaces may have limited seating and we will only admit as many audience members as the space allows – first come, first served.

The time limits for the various categories are listed on the NATS website in the “Repertoire Requirements” section. The singer will begin with his or her choice from the repertoire that was performed for the YouTube Round of the competition.  S/he will sing this selection in its entirety.  The judges will then request subsequent selections from the repertoire list, using the fully allotted time.

The singer should introduce him or herself by name and announce the title, larger work (if applicable), and composer of his or her starting piece.  There should be no mention of the teacher’s name or of the name of the student’s school or region.

At the completion of the auditions for each category, the scores will be tallied.  The results will be posted in the lobby of the Boston Conservatory of Music until 5pm, and then moved to the Boston Marriott Copley Place, near the Registration area. Evaluation/Comment Sheets from the Judges will be available for the singers to pick up at the Boston Conservatory of Music until 5pm, and then moved to the Boston Marriott Copley Place for pickup during Registration hours (8am-5pm each day). Please be sure to have your Conference Badge and photo ID with you in order to obtain these Comment Sheets.

Results will also be posted on the NATS website once they’re finalized for ALL categories – this will be AFTER 5pm on Sunday, July 6. We also encourage you to download the Guidebook app, NATS 53rd National Convention program, and we will have the results posted there.

Three singers within each audition category will advance to the final round.

Judges will confer and an announcement will be made as soon as possible. Immediately following the announcement, finalists can set up rehearsal times with the accompanist for the final round.

Copyright: Remember that you must bring a legally purchased copy of your music for the pianist. The use of photocopied music is prohibited.  If you have purchased your sheet music from an online source, be sure to also bring a separate sheet proving the performer has purchased the music or a copyright notice at the bottom of the music that includes the performer’s name.
