Bio:

Dr. Gilmore has twenty years of teaching experience, primarily as a private voice teacher and performance coach. While at the University of Nevada Las Vegas, she was an adjunct professor of voice, teaching classes in diction, opera history, and song literature as well as private voice instruction. She is a frequent adjudicator for competitions and festivals, and has been an active member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing for over ten years. Dr. Gilmore currently maintains a private voice studio in Erie, Colorado.

Dr. Gilmore holds a Doctorate of Musical Arts from the University of Nevada Las Vegas, a Masters of Music from the University of Missouri Kansas City Conservatory, and a Bachelors of Music from New Mexico State University. She teaches beginning to advanced students, with an emphasis on healthy singing and expressive interpretation. She provides instruction in sight singing and diction, as well as audition and competition preparation. Dr. Gilmore works with all styles of music including classical, jazz, musical theater, and contemporary music. Her goals as a teacher are to help each student to develop a free, healthy technique and to encourage a deeper appreciation of the art of music.

As a frequent concert artist, mezzo soprano Juline Gilmore has performed with the Las Vegas Philharmonic, Southern Nevada Musical Arts Society, Omaha Symphony, Las Vegas Music Festival, Las Vegas Desert Chorale, Henderson Symphony Orchestra, Performing Arts Society of Nevada, and the Southwest Symphony. She has performed the Brahms Alto Rhapsodie in Las Vegas and Germany, as well as numerous recitals throughout the country. Her passion for contemporary music has led her to collaborations with several important American composers, including Libby Larsen, Virko Baley, and Lori Laitman. Juline Gilmore's operatic experience includes over thirty leading operatic and musical theater roles for several professional organizations including Opera Omaha, Central City Opera, Opera Theater of St. Louis, Des Moines Metro Opera, and the Dona Ana Lyric Opera. Operatic roles have included Carmen, Dorabella, Rosina, Prince Orlovsky, Maddalena, La Principessa, and many others. As a performer of contemporary opera, she appeared as Lena in the world premiere of Libby Larsen’s Eric Hermannson’s Soul in 1998 with Opera Omaha, and debuted the title role of Randall Shinn’s Sara McKinnon on a libretto by Tony award winning playwright and director, Mark Medoff, with the Dona Ana Lyric Opera in 2001. She made her Las Vegas operatic debut in 2002 with the Southern Nevada Opera Association (now Opera Las Vegas) as Catherine Wright in the premiere of Daron Hagen’s Shining Brow. She can also be heard as Samantha in the 1996 recording of The Ballad of Baby Doe on the Newport Classics label. Awards include National Second Place Winner of the 2004 NATSAA Recital Competition, recipient of the Richard F. Gold Career Grant in 1997, the 1996 Central City Opera Studio Artist of the Year, Runner-Up of the Oklahoma Stewart Awards in 1995, and First Place Winner of the New Mexico NATS State Competitions from 1989-1993. Young Artist programs include two seasons with Opera Omaha’s Heartland Opera Theater, and summers with Opera Theater of St. Louis and Central City Opera. Hailing from Albuquerque, New Mexico, Juline Gilmore graduated with degrees from New Mexico State University and the University of Missouri Kansas City Conservatory. She taught for seven years as an adjunct voice faculty teaching private voice and courses in diction, opera history, and vocal literature at the University of Nevada Las Vegas, where she also earned a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Vocal Performance. Dr. Gilmore currently has openings for her private voice studio in Erie, Colorado and remains active as a concert artist and master class clinician throughout the United States.
