Cassie Okenka

Bio: Cassie Okenka, originally from Toledo Ohio, holds a Bachelor of Music from Baldwin Wallace College-Conservatory of Music. She continued to specialize in Commercial Contemporary Music training with the Voice Teacher Training Certification from New York Vocal Coaching, under Justin Stoney. As member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS), Cassie has mentored with Bel Canto Can Belto’s Mary Saunders-Barton and Complete Vocal Fitness’ Claudia Friedlander. Her continuing education include master classes with Matt Edwards (Associate Professor of Voice, Shenandoah Conservatory) and Andrew Byrne’s The Singing Athlete, a four day course in how to harness the power of your body and your nervous system to bring your singing to new levels of ease and mastery. Recently, she attended levels I, II, and III of the contemporary commercial music voice teacher training program, Somatic VoiceworkTM, the LoVetri Method. She also holds a Certificate of Distinction in Vocal Pedagogy from Boston Conservatory at Berklee. Vocal injury prevention, Cross Training, and functional training was the basis of the education. All of this education gives Cassie the tools and knowledge to teach safe and healthy singing, be able to sing various styles and genres, and have a “work smarter, not harder” mentality. In addition, she keeps up to date with The Journal of Singing and recent graduate thesis with information pertaining to vocal techniques, breathing techniques, and registration. During lessons, she adds Laban techniques and Viewpoints to help her students create a fully realized piece. Outside of the Voice studio, Cassie teaches masterclasses for various NYC and Country wide Broadway Based Organization. In addition, she has directed the premiere of THE ADDAMS FAMILY Younger@Part Pilot Workshop. She was also seen in the Original Broadway Cast of Bonnie and Clyde and School of Rock.After moving to NYC, she toured with the National Tour of The Wizard of Oz as Dorothy. This adventure was followed by her Broadway Debut in Bonnie and Clyde, the first national tour of Wicked, and the entire Broadway run of School of Rock. After performing for over a decade, she wanted to expand the knowledge she had in regards to teaching and her own vocal prowess. She completed Justin Stoney’s The 40-Hour Voice Teacher Training & Certification, which is a comprehensive vocal pedagogy course that shares the tools to teach vocal technique for all styles of singing: classical, contemporary, musical theater, pop, jazz, and everything in between. She also studied Andrew Byrne’s Singing Athlete, a way to harness the power of your body and your nervous system to bring your singing to new levels of ease and mastery. She actively teaches workshops with over 5 theatre and education based programs in NYC, in addition to private students.
