2018 University of Arizona Wildcat Competition for High School Singers

 

The University of Arizona’s Voice and Opera Theater announces the first-ever Wildcat Competition for High School singers with at least $750 of prize money at stake. The competition, master classes, and gala concert will be held in association with the University of Arizona Vocal Arts Showcase on Sunday, October 28, 2018.

 

Events will begin with a finalist master class and then a gala Winners Concert in the evening beginning at 7:00 pm at The Fred Fox School of Music in beautiful Holsclaw Hall.

Each contestant will submit an internet link (YouTube or the like) of two, high quality, videos of musical compositions from classical vocal literature representing different periods and styles, for example, Classical, Romantic, Impressionistic or Contemporary Art Song. One selection may be from Broadway theatre repertoire. Both selections must be memorized.

 

Singers will be judged on beauty of voice, technical skill, musicality, accuracy, communication of text, diction, and presentation.

 

For consideration and without exception, each applicant must complete the online form and pay the fee by October 1, 2018. Finalists will be notified by Oct.7, 2018.

 

Each finalist will be invited to the beautiful campus of the University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona for lessons with the faculty, a master class, and a final concert. The cash prizes and certificates will be awarded at the evening gala concert.

 

The finalists are expected to sing at the gala concert at 7pm in Holsclaw Hall on October 28, 2018 in Tucson, Arizona.
