Alice Pierce

Bio: Soprano Alice Pierce is a member of the faculty at the University of Minnesota Duluth as Instructor of Voice and Director of Opera Studio. She received a BM and MM in Vocal Performance from Indiana University. Early in her career, she served on the faculty at the University of North Carolina-Wilmington and the North Carolina School of the Arts. During these years, she was a Metropolitan Opera Regional finalist twice, singing often in concert and opera. In 1992, she moved with her family to Germany where she became a full-time soloist with the Brandenburg State Theater Staatstheater Cottbus. For ten years she averaged almost 100 performances a year in opera, operetta, musical and concert. Some of the highlights of her career there include the roles of Olympia in the Tales of Hoffmann, Adele in Die Fledermaus, Maria in West Side Story, Blonde in Die Entführung aus dem Serail and Oscar in Un Ballo in Maschera. She also performed in many other cities in Germany, as well as in Poland and Italy. Mrs. Pierce was a member of the voice faculty at Western Michigan University from 2005 through 2012, teaching voice and directing opera. She is an active member of NATS, and has had many students win local, state and regional competitions.   Ms. Pierce was most recently seen as soprano soloist with Western Illinois University Symphony in Gorecki's 3rd Symphony, Madame Frou-Frou Lyric Opera of the North's Les Uncomfortables, and with the Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra as soprano soloist in Carmina Burana. She also is a faculty member and performing artist with the Anchorage Chamber Music Festival. Most recent directing productions at UMD include Die Fledermaus, The World of the Moon, Street Scene and The Magic Flute. Opera scene presentations include Bedtime Opera Stories, The Doctor Is In, Opera Fatale, Antics Road Show, and Stargait! Her students continue to win State, Regional and National Competitions.
