Dr. Cornwell received the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Vocal Performance from the University of South Carolina and holds both undergraduate and master’s degrees in vocal performance from Winthrop University. She also received her teaching certification through South Carolina’s PACE program. She is a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing, Pi Kappa Lambda (national music honor society), Phi Kappa Phi (collegiate honor society), and Delta Omicron (international music fraternity). In 2016, she attended the CCM Vocal Pedagogy Institute at Shenandoah University. She enjoys helping young people reach their potential in many singing styles-classical, musical theatre, and contemporary worship.
Dr. Cornwell was the 2006 SC National Association of Teachers of Singing Artist Award Competition winner. She has performed lead opera, musical theatre, and solo roles with Opera at USC, Winthrop Opera Theater, and York County Choral Society. She served as a lecturer in opera workshop, diction, and applied voice at Winthrop University for seven years. She also taught voice through the Winthrop Academy. She was the assistant choral director at Northwestern High School for one year and has been at Clover High School for eleven years. At Clover High School, Dr. Cornwell is one of three choral classroom teachers. She also oversees the voice lesson program and teaches in her own private studio. She enjoys serving in the worship and youth ministries at Christ the King Church (Charlotte, NC) and lives in Fort Mill with her son Colin, who is 14 years old.
