Bio:

Lynn Martindale, B.M., M.A., received degrees from the University of Hawaii and New York University where she studied applied voice and vocal performance and is known for her work in both singing and coaching acting for singers. In the summer of 2019, she also graduated from the Shenandoah University’s CCM Vocal Pedagogy Summer Institute. Currently working on a Certificate for Opera Direction from Ithaca College in New York, she hopes to complete it next summer.

In 1979, Ms. Martindale won First Prize in the prestigious Loren L. Zachary Contest and received an all expenses paid audition tour of Europe. Additional contest wins that year include the Victor Fuchs Memorial Awards; San Francisco Western Regional Finals; and San Diego Opera Awards. She was also a Metropolitan Opera District winner and a finalist in the Rotary Young Artist Contest.

Performance engagements included the Music Academy of the West; Euterpe Opera; San Diego Opera; Zurich Opera; Stadt Theater Bielefeld with guest appearances in Bremen, Detmold, Leverkusen and Paderborn, Germany, in such roles as Fiordiligi in Cosi fan tutte; Micaela in Carmen; the Countess in Marriage of Figaro; the Marschallin in Rosenkavalier; Mimi in Boheme; the First Lady in the Magic Flute; the Composer in Ariadne auf Naxos; and Tatyana in Onegin. Heard in the role of Vicclinda in the West Coast premiere of I Lombardi with Carlo Bergonzi, she has also appeared in concerts and recitals in the United States, Switzerland and Germany. While working on her master’s degree at New York University, she was recruited by Lee Strasberg Institute to teach vocal performance to actors. The next year, she moved to the musical theater program at NYU Tisch School of the Arts (CAP21) where she taught private and class voice for 13 years. In 1995, an opportunity to teach at the prestigious Manhattan School of Music was extended and for the next several years; she held the position of Professor, Applied Voice. In the fall of 2003, Lynn began teaching vocal production and song performance to actors at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts.

In the fall of 2012, Ms. Martindale moved to Fort Myers and opened the Linhart Voice Studio, which currently offers classes in private voice and vocal performance. She has also taught Applied Voice at Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) and Florida Southwestern College (FSW). Most recently, she was a sabbatical replacement at FSW where she taught Acting and Theatre Appreciation. She has adjudicated for the SWFL Young Artist Competition sponsored by the Fort Myers Alliance for the Arts and the SWFL Symphony Prescott/Van Sickle Young Artist Awards. She also continues to serve on the Panel of Experts for Career Bridges, a NY based foundation that provides feedback and study awards to young opera singers; as well as on the Board of Trustees for ENCOMPASS New Opera Theater.
