Bio for: Cyndi Van Arragon
I started my music career at the age of 4 with piano lessons. From that point on until the present, my life has been revolving and growing around the subject of music. I began my teaching career in 1985 with the program MUSIC FOR YOUNG CHILDREN, an excellent program that incorporates the ORFF, SUZUKI, and CONSERVATORY teaching methods. In 1989 I received my Bachelor of Arts degree from Redeemer College with a major in music. In 1995 I attained my A.R.C.T. in voice in both Performers and Teachers from the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, winning a number of scholarships and awards along the way.
I studied singing with Jane Black of Barrie, Paul Coates of London and Paul Massel Toronto.
I am a member of the Ontario Registered Music Teachers Association (ORMTA) and the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS). I receive professional articles on the subjects of teaching piano, voice and theory. When time permits, I attend professional development workshops and conferences.
I have been teaching Voice, Piano and Theory lessons in my home studio in Barrie since 1989. I taught at the Holland Marsh District Christian School for 11 years (1990-2001) While maintaining my home studio in Barrie. Currently I am teaching private music lessons at Timothy Christian School, Unity Christian High School and in my home studio. A number of my students have won awards. Many are actively involved in youth bands, morning worship services in their home churches, and some have gone on to participate in plays, Broadway productions and Theatre Companies such as Sight and Sound. Many of my students have acquired their grade 11 and 12 high school art credits. And continue to study music in their post secondary years.
I have been an adjudicator at music festivals, conducted local youth choirs and church choirs, been involved as a vocal coach for worship leaders, involved with a number of contemporary bands inside and outside of the church setting. I have performed on local television for several music specials and been a part of several recording projects, as well as commercially for radio and television. On a personal level, in 1989, I recorded and produced my first ever project of Hymns and Classical songs entitled A New Commandment and sold out within the first six months of debuting the project. I have lead worship at local churches, women’s conferences and have performed in concerts, local recitals, Christian Women’s clubs, and been a guest soloist and pianist for a Christian retirement home.
I love music, and I hope to in-still and inspire my students to aspire to their best possible ability, whether as a performer or music appreciator. For me, music is a gift and a blessing.
