Bio: Wendy Hillhouse, mezzo soprano, has achieved a versatility and mastery of diverse repertoire which is rare. She has performed with the Metropolitan Opera, the Glyndebourne Festival and many major American opera companies. Early in her career she won numerous competitions and awards, including the Metropolitan Opera Auditions, and the Pavarotti International Competition. She has directed Candide and The Ballad of Baby Doe at Stanford, and this year will direct Conrad Susa’s The Wise Women. Wendy has been researching the vocal music of Henry Cowell, and in 2013 her edition of Cowell’s one-act opera The Commission was performed at Stanford. She is a member of the voice faculty of Stanford University, and formerly taught at San Francisco Conservatory of Music. She also is Northern California District Governor and past President of the San Francisco Bay Area Chapter of NATS (National Association of Teachers of Singing), and holds degrees from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and U.C. Berkeley. She is currently working towards a Master’s of Liberal Arts degree at Stanford.
