Bio: Kat Sylvan, Soprano, has her BM in Classical Voice, and lives and teaches in Aloha, OR, in the Beaverton area. She teaches music in her home studio, though previously at Evergreen Studio of Music and the Arts, as well as in the classroom at Holy Family School, both in her hometown of San Jose, CA. She also led the Holy Family children's choir, Seraphim, and leads and sings music for other church Masses in the area. She previously was the vocal director of Carolyn Clark's musical Annie Jr. (San Jose), as well as being a professional section leader for St. Mark's Methodist Church, singer for Fremont Presbyterian, and director for music for youth Masses at the Newman Catholic Community in Sacramento. Her own private teacher is the renowned Dr. Robin Fisher, Soprano. Dr. Fisher is one of two classical voice instructors at CSU Sacramento, and has performed in both the United States and Europe. Kat has also been trained in jazz and pop singing through her teacher -- and esteemed writer and arranger -- Kerry Marsh, as well as the amazing direction of Michelle Hawkins. Marsh's CSU Jazz Singers won a Downbeat Award during her time with them, and Hawkins has had many groups throughout the years, and has created vocal jazz programs at many different community colleges. Kat has been in numerous classical and jazz vocal ensembles, some where she has been section leader and lead. She was also the lead vocalist for the band Invitation to Grace, and has performed for crowds of over 2,000 people.
