Soprano Barbee Monk has been a private teacher for over twelve years. She has held positions at the University of North Florida, Professional Arts Academy (Edgewater, NJ), The Mandelstam School (Miami), and 6th Borough Music Academy (Hoboken, NJ). Her former students have been accepted to continue their studies at such institutions as AMDA Summer Conservatory, Stetson University, University of North Florida, Miami-Dade College, Douglas Anderson School of the Arts (Jacksonville, FL), Miami Children's Theatre, Miami Children's Chorus, and Jacksonville Children's Chorus.
In addition to teaching, Ms. Monk is an active professional singer. She has recently been seen in Die Zauberflöte (Pamina) and Acis and Galatea (Galatea) with Opera Theatre of Montclair; Carmen (Frasquita) and Il trovatore (Ines) with New Rochelle Opera; Die Fledermaus (Rosalinde) with New York Lyric Opera Theatre; Suor Angelica (Prima conversa) with Miami Lyric Opera; The Vanishing Bridegroom (Bride/Wife/Mother) with Barnard Opera; and the world premier of Mason’s Entanglements (Acting Coach) at Miami’s Lowe Art Museum.
Ms. Monk’s sacred and concert appearances include Fauré’s Requiem, Bach’s Cantata 89 and Vivaldi’s Gloria with the Music at Atonement series in Tenafly, NJ; Messiah with the Civic Chorale of Greater Miami; and Exsultate, jubilate on the Music at St. Mark’s series in Jacksonville, FL.
Ms. Monk holds a Master of Music in Vocal Performance from the University of Miami and a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance with Latin Honors and University Honors from the University of North Florida. She is also an alumna of the OperaWorks Advanced Artist Program and the European Music Academy in Prague. She currently resides in the New York metropolitan area.
