Shih-Yi Kuan

Style: Opera; Classical; Musical Theatre
Bio:

Opera, Classical, Art Songs, Musical Theater, Oratorio

My music education includes graduation, with distinction, from a European conservatory with two diplomas: one in Lieder and Oratorio, and the other in Opera Performance. My teachers included Lilian Sukis, Roberta Knie, Gerhard Zeller, Horst Zander, David Stockton, Deborah Karner, and Daniel Forlano.

My students have won competitions, performed in local music groups, won scholarships, and been admitted as college music majors.

I consider the ability to use the body and mind to sing and perform to be one of the most amazing things in the world. I have been doing this for 30 years and love to help anyone who wants to experience the same thrill. It is important to learn the correct techniques to improve the voice and avoid permanent damage. I can help singers increase range, improve tone quality, reinforce breath control, increase volume, learn new languages, polish performance and acting, and improve musicality.

I believe in teaching using patience and encouragement and in teaching every student to the best of my knowledge and ability. If a student cannot understand, it is the responsibility of the teacher to find other ways to explain until the student comprehends.
