Bio: Melanie Carter has a Bachelor of Music (voice performance) degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and a Master of Music (voice performance) degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She has sung in numerous productions, including leading roles in the musicals Mary Poppins (Mary Poppins), Kiss Me, Kate (Kate/Lilli Vanessi), The Secret Garden (Lily), Guys and Dolls (Sarah), and Oklahoma! (Laurey), and leading roles in the operas Les Contes d’Hoffmann (Olympia), Die Fledermaus (Sally), Albert Herring (Miss Wordsworth), Street Scene (Greta Fiorentino), Trial by Jury (Angelina), The Yeomen of the Guard (Elsie Maynard) and Pirates of Penzance (Mabel). She has also sung several full recitals, has appeared as guest soloist in several venues, and has appeared in the chorus with the Greensboro Opera Company on multiple occasions. She began playing the piano at age 4 and enjoys playing at church and for her voice students. In addition to performing, she has been teaching voice and piano lessons to children, teenagers, and adults since 2000. She has experience working with students on many different kinds of music, including classical, musical theater, jazz, pop, and folk music.
