Bio:

Jenice is a dedicated and respected teacher, bringing over 25 years of expertise in voice teaching and coaching to her students. Known as a master teacher, she offers vocal coaching to a diverse range of students, music educators, performers, actors, composers, and recording artists. She also enjoys working with young developing artists and beginners. Jenice’s teaching career includes faculty positions at several higher education institutions including Great Lakes Christian College, Radford University, Millersville University, and, since 2018, Messiah University. In addition to these roles, Jenice has been invited to join the faculty of various music and theatre programs including Alaska’s Summer Fine Arts Camp in Fairbanks and the Virginia Governor’s School for Vocal and Theatrical Arts, where she taught young talented students for three consecutive summers. Locally, Jenice is frequently invited to lead workshops on vocal health, technique, and musical expression. Many of her students have become successful performers, music educators, and worship leaders in both contemporary and liturgical settings. She is an active member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing. In addition to teaching voice, Jenice teaches traditional piano, keyboard skills for contemporary worship, music theory, and theatre skills and improvisation. At Radford University she developed a course entitled Singing for the Stage, a popular class bridging the music and theatre departments. Jenice also enjoys teaching music concepts and has developed unique strategies using solfege to engage music students in ear training and music theory applications.

Jenice had her first professional engagement at the age of twelve in the title role of Annie at Neil’s New Yorker Dinner Theater. As a young soprano, she was awarded the Alfred Hedeman College Scholarship and studied at the Tanglewood Institute, singing in a choir under the baton of Michael Tilson Thomas for Leonard Bernstein’s 70th Birthday Gala. Highlights from Jenice’s performance career include appearances in opera, music theatre, theatre improvisation, and concert performances in Germany, Alaska, and throughout the Eastern United States. She participated as finalist in a Mid-Atlantic regional NATSAA competition, winning first place in the state of Virginia. Some of her favorite opera and stage roles include Monica in The Medium, Ynoild in Pelléas et Mélisande, The Page in Argento’s Christopher Sly, and Luisa in The Fantastiks. Ms. Riebe also enjoys artistic collaboration in the chamber music venue and has toured in numerous recitals. Jenice continues to sing in liturgical and contemporary worship settings and plays keyboard regularly in a worship band. Jenice earned a Bachelor of Music degree from Oberlin Conservatory, where she studied vocal pedagogy with the acclaimed Richard Miller. She holds a Master of Music degree from University of Minnesota and received awards from both institutions for outstanding musical achievement. In addition to her post-graduate work at the University of North Carolina Greensboro where she studied with Clara O’Brien and coached with Andrew Harley, she has worked under/coached with such notable artists as Margo Garrett, Steven Daigle, James Robinson, and Robert Spano. With the belief that every teacher should continue their own studies, Jenice relies on her incredible mentor and master teacher Charlotte Aiosa.
