Bio: Shainy loves to share her passion for music with her students, and offers beginning through advanced voice lessons to students of all ages in her Tucson studio.
Shainy is a soprano that holds a Bachelor of Music in Performance with an emphasis in Voice from Portland State University. Shainy is currently earning her Master’s degree in Vocal Performance at the Fred Fox School of Music where she works as a graduate assistant.
At the University of Arizona, Shainy teaches class voice, private voice lessons and assists with diction class.
Previously a mezzo soprano, Ms. Manuel’s most recent roles include Bianca in The Rape of Lucretia, Prince Orlovsky in Die Fledermaus, Zita in Gianni Schicchi, Sorceress in Dido and Aeneas and Marianne in La chatte métamorphosée en femme.
Shainy has been recognized as an excellent actress with a great sense of comedic timing. Concerning her role as Zita in Gianni Schicchi, Northwest Reverb wrote, "The zany family’s antics (are) funny, especially those of Shainy Manuel who sings bawdy bewigged redhead Zita." Her most recent award was winner of the Richard Heltzer Opera Scholarship competition at PSU.
Outside of opera, Shainy has appeared twice as the second soprano soloist in Beethoven’s Choral Fantasy, most recently with the Oregon Symphony and Pink Martini’s Thomas Lauderdale, under the direction of Maestro Carlos Kalmar.
Shainy is a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing, and is proud of her success as a private voice instructor, running a full studio for the past 4 years. Upcoming performances include the Tucson Desert Song Festival and the role of Public Opinion in Offenbach’s Orphée aux enfers.
