Andre Campelo

Brazilian baritone André Campelo is an enthusiastic recitalist and oratorio performer and is often featured as a soloist in performances of works such as Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, Mozart’s Requiem, Fauré’s Requiem, and in Bach’s B minor Mass, Christmas Oratorio, and Magnificat. Among his favorite recital appearances are the great German song cycles: Winterreise, Schwanengesang (Schubert), Dichterliebe, Liederkreis op. 39 (Schumann). He also performed solo recitals of Brazilian songs in dozens of theaters in Brazil, Panama, and Portugal. His stage performances include roles in South Pacific (Émile de Becque), Così fan tutte (Don Alfonso and Guglielmo), The Tales of Hoffmann (the Four Villains), and The Marriage of Figaro (Count Almaviva), and Ainadamar (José Tripaldi).

As a faculty member of DePauw University, Campelo is committed to helping young singers to achieve their academic and career goals, guiding them towards singing with artistry and reliable vocal technique. He teaches a variety of courses including Diction (Italian, German, French, Spanish), Vocal Pedagogy, Solo Vocal Literature, and Applied Voice. He has also served as masterclass clinician (Classical Singer Convention) and adjudicator (NATS, Classical Singer Competition).

His students have recently been accepted and won scholarships to several graduate programs such as Indiana University, University of Michigan, Longy School of Music of Bard College, San Francisco Conservatory, Royal Northern College of Music (Manchester, England), Royal Birmingham Conservatoire (Birmingham, England), Northwestern, Manhattan School of Music, and Mannes School of Music.

He received a B.A. in Portuguese from Universidade Federal do Maranhão (Brazil), a B.M. in Voice Performance from Universidade Federal de Goiás (Brazil), and an M.M. and a D.M.A. in Voice Performance from University of Kentucky.
