Bio: Alexandra Porter, soprano, is a dedicated performer, programmer, and supporter of contemporary music. This season brings collaborations with Stone Mason Projects, the Greenwich House Music School (NYC), composer Juliana Hall, and performances with The Crossing (Philadelphia). This past summer, she performed with the Nief-Norf Festival for contemporary chamber music in Tennessee, singing the music of Kate Soper, Ricardo Zohn-Muldoon, and Luciano Berio. For the past four years, she was a vocalist with New Music on the Point, working with emerging young composers as well as established artists like Daron Hagen, Gilda Lyons, Robert Paterson, and Yehudi Wyner to bring new compositions to life. She has also worked closely in rehearsal and performance with the acclaimed members of the JACK Quartet and the American Modern Ensemble. In 2014 and 2016, she sang for the Cortona Sessions for New Music in Italy, premiering student compositions and collaborating closely with the esteemed faculty. Ms. Porter has been an administrator for the Resonant Bodies Festival, a three-day event showcasing the many possibilities of the human voice, since 2015. She also founded the Contemporary Undercurrent of Song Project: a recital series committed to the elevation of modern art song composition. Equally at home in more traditional repertoire, she has performed as Monica (The Medium), The Governess (Turn of the Screw), Brigitta (Iolanta), and Jano in Janáček’s Jenufa and given recitals in New York City, upstate New York, Pennsylvania, and throughout New Jersey. A passionate educator, Ms. Porter is an adjunct professor at Muhlenberg College. She is an alumna of The Pennsylvania State University and Westminster Choir College.
